Caesars HEROs Take on Relay for Life

Last month’s Relay For Life campaign proved that more fun equals more funds! What can jeans and tennis shoes in the office, homemade baked goods, raffle prizes and throwing pie at the boss achieve? A $30,000 donation to the American Cancer Society for Relay for Life.

proofLas Vegas-based members of Caesars employee volunteer group, HERO, organized a month-long Relay for Life campaign to support the fight against cancer. Starting in March, the team arranged a series of events leading up to race day on April 11. Not only did the activities raise funds for the cause, they also generated awareness for the race. More than 200 Caesars employees ended up participating in the event, logging over 600 service hours!

The festivities kicked off in Caesars’ own merchandise shops, where customers had the opportunity to add a dollar to their purchase to contribute to the American Cancer Society. We were grateful to local company, Eagle Promotions that donated 300 t-shirts to the Caesars Relay for Life team. Proceeds from selling the shirts for five dollars each benefitted the cause. These retail efforts alone succeeded in collecting $8,000!

Our brave, pie covered, executives! Thank you VP Financial Operations, VP Email Marketing, SVP Revenue Acceleration, VP Customer Loyalty and VP & Chief Architect for your support!

On March 11th, the delectable aroma of freshly baked brownies, muffins, and more filled the walkways of Caesars HQ during the office bake sale. Corporate employees were easily tempted for a treat with all proceeds going to support cancer research.

The fun didn’t stop there. What else could heat up the fundraising efforts more than buying your way to jeans and tennis shoe freedom in the corporate offices in exchange for a five dollar donation on designated days in March? Perhaps “pie-ing” your senior executive in the face with a creamy whipped cream pie could inspire more generosity! The next event involved brave executives volunteering to be “pie-d” in the face if they received either the highest or lowest amount of donations made in their honor. The heavy hitters who donated fifty dollars had the option to pie the executive of their choice. Finally, a raffle was held in alliance with the Aid for AIDS of Nevada event, with lucky winners receiving show tickets, spa treatments, manicures and pedicures, among other great prizes!

The month of fundraising accomplished its task of building momentum throughout Las Vegas locations for the grand Relay for Life event. Tracing back to 1985, the 24 hour event is held by the American Cancer Society to honor those who have survived and are currently fighting cancer, and the loved ones who have passed. The proceeds accumulalumted by Relay for Life are used to save lives and create a world with less cancer through research, treatments, wellness programs and support services. This is why over 200 Caesars volunteers joined at the Smith Center to walk in teams from 11:00 a.m. to midnight. The uplifting event had live entertainment for the walkers to enjoy with “corn hole” and “bra pong” games for resting walkers to play. All participants rushed to the track to strut their stuff in boas for the showgirl walk, gussied up for the blue and purple laps, and shimmied their bodies in the conga line lap! At dusk, luminaria bags decorated in memory of someone lost to cancer or in support of someone fighting or who has survived cancer lined the track to brightly light the way for the walkers.

April’s Southern Nevada Relay for Life was an immense success in large part because of the commitment of the Caesars’ team who organized the events and of course, all the HEROs who participated. This dedication was why Caesars Entertainment was awarded the Presenting Sponsor of the event! We are so proud of the joint effort of all our HEROs who participated across the Southern Nevada area.

Hello I am a Fire Lt. on the Mississippi Gulf Coast We are having a Tunnel to Towers 5k run this Sept. In Biloxi. Harrahs Gulf Coast said we could use their 10 acre green space where our race ends. 100% of money raised goes towards the Fallen FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller Foundation. They have a program called Building for Americas Bravest. They build custom smart homes for catastrophically injured US Soldiers mortgage free. I really like how your HERO group pulled together and raised money. I would really like to know if you could discuss this with Harrahs Gulf Coast and see if it’s something they would like to expand on for Our Military. They run in to fight for us, Now will you run to help them out?http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WAKpgaKIT7U&autoplay=1
