As 2014 comes to an end, we can’t help but think back on the past year and appreciate the many different ways we have been able to touch the lives of our guests, our fellow employees, our neighbors, and those less fortunate. At Caesars, we are very proud of the programs we’re driving around environmental and social impact. What we’re most proud of is how these initiatives are being executed and implemented by our employees.
All in all, our employees’ citizenship has really stood out this year as we’ve strengthened our ties to our communities across the country. We have been honored to watch the companies of our hard-working, family owned suppliers grow and prosper through our partnerships with them. We have been inspired by the active support of our HERO volunteers, fundraisers and community outreach advocates who have set an example for our organization and have helped us raise the bar for corporate citizenship. We are thrilled to continue providing our valued guests with world-class entertainment, and that our casino employees remain so dedicated to responsible gaming practices and ensuring positive guest experiences. Our employees continue to help spread Caesars’ values of respecting our planet, while we keep innovating ways to integrate environmental sustainability into our buildings and operations. It has also been really exciting to extend our reach to urban areas such as downtown Cincinnati and Baltimore with our newer properties. We would have not succeeded in making such an impact to improving the quality of life around us if it weren’t for their unfailing commitment of Caesars employees.
Here are a few highlights of the great work our employees have been involved in this year:
Clean the World, Dominican Republic
Since 2010, Caesars has partnered with Clean the World Foundation to help advance the organization’s mission: Collect and recycle soap and shampoo products discarded by the hospitality industry and distribute of these and other donated hygiene products to impoverished people to prevent the millions of deaths caused by hygiene-related illnesses every day. This September marked the second year in a row that Caesars awarded three employees with a trip of a lifetime to combat preventable diseases among children through soap donation and hygiene education in another country. This year, the team visited five distribution sites in the Dominican Republic, including community centers and schools and hand-delivered over 10,500 bars of soap to 2150 children and their teachers. The volunteer winners included:
- Bally’s Las Vegas Dealer Mirtha Eusebio, was selected as this year’s Clean the World Employee Contest
winner in the category of Service with Passion. Mirtha has been a role model employee for the past three years, lives our mission on a daily basis and truly does inspire grown-ups to play. Since joining the staff Mirtha received six top box Total Service observations and three service commendations from management. Coincidentally, Mirtha is from the Dominican Republic and is fluent in Spanish. Serving the people of her homeland carried extra special significance to her.
- North Kansas City Housekeeper Ida “Shinky” Whitley was selected as this year’s Clean the World Employee Contest winner in the category of Outstanding Housekeeper. Shinky epitomizes what it means to be a team player! She always comes to work with a positive attitude and high energy behavior that is contagious to not only other housekeepers, but to other team members in other departments. She volunteers on her days off to help out, she picks up extra rooms and has no problem working 7 days a week if the department is in a bind. Shinky is truly someone that the property can look up to.
- James “Roger” Henson from Hammond Marine Operations was selected as this year’s Clean the World Employee Contest winner in the category of Dedication to Community Service. Roger has actively participated in many of the property HERO events including, packing gifts to for families in need and elderly, Toys for Tots, and helping on home repairs for the elderly, Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor. When a tornado that hit the small town of Little Washington, IN Roger took it upon himself to gather some of his friends and go there to assist with repair and clean up. He has been an active volunteer with Horseshoe Casino where he volunteers monthly to deliver Meal on Wheels, is a Big Brother mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, serves meals at Ronald McDonald House, and packs meals at the Food Pantry just to name a few. He has also been working with the city where he resides to create a community garden that the residents can plant, maintain and harvest from as a way for them to work together and create a sustainable improvement to their community.
Caesars Receives Civic 50 Award
Over the years, our employees have helped us earn recognition with multiple awards. Recently on December
8th, we had the additional honor of being named one of America’s most community-minded companies in The Civic 50. The Civic 50 is an initiative of Points of Light, the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service, in partnership with Bloomberg LP. Caesars scored high on the annual survey developed by a panel of experts and leading academics that measures corporate civic engagement and impact, in addition to how well companies incorporate socially responsible practices and community leadership into their culture.
We’re honored to receive this distinction for our continuing efforts to uphold corporate citizenship and contribute to community and economic development wherever we do business. Rob Morris receives top honors at Nevada’s Green Building Awards
On December 12th, Rob Morris, corporate manager of utilities and engineering at Caesars Entertainment was recognized by U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Nevada chapter with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED): Individual Award for his commitment to green building certification. The honor was presented at the organization’s 2nd Annual Green Gala, which drew in more than 125 attendees, including the state’s leading sustainability leaders. The LEED Leadership awards program encourages and recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations for their contributions within Southern Nevada. It also serves to increase public awareness of the important services provided by USGBC members, and to emphasize the role its members play in shaping the community through green building and sustainability excellence.
Rob joined Caesars Entertainment in 2010 as the Energy Services Manager, and since then he has been instrumental in developing a robust energy management program for Caesars, including utility data capture and analytics, energy engineering and project implementation. He holds responsibility for enterprise utility budgeting, in addition to developing and managing a budget that exceeds $180,000 per year. His work has supported the development of a world-class sustainability program for Caesars, focused on efficiency and the reduction of energy, water, waste and carbon. With over eight years of diverse energy experience, his laser-focus on results has helped Caesars achieve a 20 percent reduction in energy use per square foot over the last five years. Rob heads the company’s existing LEED building certification program and is currently leading efforts to earn LEED certifications for 12 existing properties in Las Vegas, the largest number of projects to be undertaken in Southern Nevada at the same time. Congratulations on this achievement, Rob!
